STUDENT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
My goal is to learn more about how I can improve the relationships I build with others through leadership strategies.

Servant Leadership
Serving others as a leader in turn inspires them to lead. In this presentation we learned the value of mentors in our lives and discussed past experiences where we the main goal of a leader has been to serve those who follow them. I learned the importance of lifting others as a leader instead of expecting them to lift you.

Empowering Groups by Encouraging People
The five languages of appreciation are important as a leader for recognizing people. This SLI had us exploring our own personal preferences as well as how we can show appreciation to others in a way that will be most meaningful to them. I learned that I connect most with words of affirmation. Verbal appreciation is important to me because it clearly states that my work is recognized by the leader.

Mental Blocks
Mental Blocks often happen when we meet a challenge that is not so easy for us to beat. In this SLI we split into groups with other leaders to complete puzzles with blocks. Sometimes, overcoming mental blocks independently is really hard. Working as a team to solve a problem is a great way to feel supported and generate unique ideas.
